A nice original WWII Soviet Medal For Bravery here, serial number 1,840,029. This medal has been researched and was awarded to Ilya Niolaevich Obvintsev in 1944 for courageous actions taken during battle in the Latvian SSR. Obvintsev served as a blacksmith (farrier) in the 620th Rifle Regiment, 164th Rifle Division. His citation reads as follows:

 

During the forcing of the river Venta in the area of the village of Iurdishi [?], Latvian SSR, on 05.11.1944, he acted boldly and decisively and destroyed three hitlerites.

The Medal "For Bravery" was created by the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on 17 October 1938. It was awarded to soldiers of the Soviet Army, Navy, border and internal troops and other citizens of the USSR, as well as to persons who are not citizens of the USSR, for personal courage and bravery displayed in battles against the enemies of the socialist fatherland, while protecting the state border of the USSR, during the performance of military duties in circumstances involving a risk to life.
