The "Socialist Brigade Movement" was established in 1958. It was introduced in place of the Stakhanov movement, as a continuation of the labor competition movements commonly found in socialist countries. An important difference between these movements was that the Socialist Brigade Movement recognized a working group, as opposed to an individual worker.
 
According to contemporary propaganda, it was created at the initiative of workers: "for the political and economic strengthening of workers' power, for raising the standard of living of workers, and for raising general literacy." 
 
This table medal was awarded to the "Excellent Socialist Brigade Company" and would likely have been displayed at the brigade HQ rather than owned by an individual member. It is in excellent condition, reverse is blank.  Approximately 3" across.
