Very fine original Austro-Hungarian medal here, commemorating 50 years of the rule of Emperor Franz Josef I. This medal is sewn on the reverse rather than having the traditional clasp you find on tri-fold ribbons. It is possible that it was once mounted on a medal bar. 4 classes of this medal were struck. This is the bronze class awarded to military servicemen. A dizzying amount of variation exist, as Austro-Hungary did not have a state mint, relying on many small metalsmith shops to create the necessary number.
