A very nice group of original and early Soviet Ukranian "Ready for Labour and Defence of the USSR" award documents belonging to one person. At the bottom of each document is a depiction of the GTO badge, 2nd class. Documents are dated 1951-1956 with one document having no date, or being too faded to decipher. Excellent condition with minor wear present along the borders of each document. The reverse of all documents is blank and without handwriting or other marks.
"Ready for Labour and Defence of the USSR" (abbreviated as GTO) was the All-Union physical culture training programme, introduced in the USSR on March 11, 1931 on the initiative of the Komsomol. It was a complement to the Unified Sports Classification System of the USSR. While the latter provided Soviet physical education system requirements only for athletes, GTO was a programme for all Soviet people of almost all ages. By the year 1976, 220 million people were awarded GTO badges.
