A nice and early New York State National Guard medal here. This medal was awarded for recruitment. Features a WWII period sewn-on brooch on the reverse. This is an earlier model of the medal which reads, "NEW YORK GUARD" rather than "NEW YORK NATIONAL GUARD" which appears on later examples. Because of this discrepancy and the limited information available, it is also possible that this award was presented by the New York State Guard.
