Very fine example of the rare pre-1956 Sztahanovista medal in original award box. An early set. Box is in average condition, but does feature a rather fancy red lining compared to later awards.

The medal is named after Soviet Ukranian miner Alexei Stakhanov, who was the first miner to extract 100 tons of coal in a single shift. He inspired the Stakhanovite Movment, which stressed that innovations in process come from those who actually do the work. The Sztahanovista medal was only awarded for three years, and only one medal was awarded to one person per industry.
