A very nice example of the Hungarian People's Republic National Defense Merit Medal. This medal comes complete with it's original award box and ribbon bar, both in very good condition. As the reverse of this medal is embossed rather than engraved, it is safe to assume that this is a later-produced variation of the award. Displays well. 
 
The Hungarian Revolutionary Workers' and Peasants' Government established the HONVDELMI ÉRDEMEREM medal to award professional members of the Hungarian People's Army for their years of service. The award can be awarded in recognition of 10, 15, 20, 25 years of effective service.
