An interesting piece here. This Purple Heart looks to be a 1945 U.S. Mint type-III Naval Purple Heart made of Bronze w/ Gold Gilting. It has lost it's original ribbon and suspension ring, and is now worn on a gold chain with smaller, more appropriate suspension ring. This is an unusual configuration for this award, and one wonders if it was worn as a sweetheart item. Either way, an affordable and interesting Purple Heart for the collector.
The Purple Heart is a United States military decoration awarded in the name of the President to those wounded or killed while serving, on or after April 5, 1917, with the U.S. military.
