On May 20th 1942, by the Decree of the Supreme Soviet Presidium of the USSR, the Order of the Patriotic War was established in two classes. It was the very first award instituted during the Great Patriotic War and the first Soviet order that had class division. The Order’s statute said that it "is established for awarding ‘those who distinguished themselves in battles for the Soviet Motherland in Patriotic War against the occupants. It is awarded to soldiers, officers of the Red Army, Navy, NKVD troops and partisan detachments having displayed courage and fortitude in battles for the Soviet Motherland as well as servicemen who contributed to the success of military operations of our army’."

This is a fine original WWII Order of the Great Patriotic War, 2nd class. Unfortunately there is visible enamel damage, with much of the enamel being lost on the bottom left arm of the star. Still displays well and is a great candidate for research. This award is serialized (310,185) and I believe it to be a Type 1 award produced from the Leningrad Mint, manufactured in the 2nd half of 1944. Based on it's serial number, this Order was awarded in late 1944-early 1945.

Wear and age are present and visible in photos. This is an excellent Order priced to reflect its flaws.
