A very fine and quite large Dusseldorf Karneval medal here, maker marked to the reverse and with beautiful red and white enamel. Roughly 2.75"x 3" and meant to be worn around the neck.

The first mention of Karneval orden comes in 1824, when a Princess of Venice arrived in Cologne (Köln) and gifted the Karneval Hero (the forerunner to the Karneval Prinz) with a medal to show appreciation… and she received a medal in return as thanks. After 1827, the orden were given to worthy Karneval celebrants.
